Packers’ Jordan Love Gets Honest on Matt LaFleur After Controversy

The Green Bay Packers entered the 2026 NFL offseason facing a controversial question. Should they keep head coach Matt LaFleur or move on in a different direction?

When all was said and done, the Packers decided to keep him in town and gave him a new contract extension. Even though an extension is in place, Green Bay is expecting to see more success in the near future or a change could still be coming.

Jordan Love is in the prime of his career right now. The Packers’ Super Bowl contention window has opened. It’s time to start winning or to make aggressive changes.

Many fans were hoping to see Green Bay go in a different direction at head coach. LaFleur has been an excellent regular season coach, but his playoff record has been subpar. Others felt that here would be no replacement the Packers could find better than LaFleur.

Either way, LaFleur is back and will look to lead Green Bay to success in 2026.

Jordan Love Comments on Packers’ Decision to Keep Matt LaFleur

While there was a lot of outside noise and fan frustration with LaFleur, Love is happy to see his head coach back with the team.

Speaking to Kyle Malzahn of WFRV, Love made his opinion on LaFleur very clear.

“Being able to keep Matt around is awesome, and I’m very happy about that,” Love said. “It’s a lot to learn a whole new system and new terminology. As a quarterback, being in the same system, the same terminology, it definitely helps me out.”

Perhaps those comments will help make some fans more comfortable with LaFleur returning. He could easily ease the frustration with a big season this year. A Super Bowl would almost certainly guarantee keeping him in town long-term.

Only time will tell, but the Love and LaFleur connection will continue on.

Looking at Matt LaFleur’s Tenure in Green Bay

LaFleur took over the Packers’ head coaching job back in 2019. He replaced Mike McCarthy and brought a fresh offensive mind to the table.

Since becoming the head coach in Green Bay, LaFleur has led his team to a 76-40-1 regular season record. In the playoffs, he has gone just 3-6.

Much of LaFleur’s top success came with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. However, after the future Hall of Famer was traded away, he was able to keep the Packers in contention with Love under center.

It will be interesting to see what the 2026 season has in store for the Green Bay Packers. Should the team come up short of expectations once again, fans will undoubtedly be calling for LaFleur’s job. He’ll be facing a lot of outside pressure entering this season.
