Ex-Browns Star Turning Heads With Comeback Bid

Odell Beckham Jr. still has the hands and is not ready to hang up his cleats.

The 33-year-old free agent turned heads at Tom Brady’s Fanatics Flag Football Classic in Los Angeles on March 21, going viral with a one-handed touchdown grab. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the performance is having real consequences.

“Free agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. has received renewed interest in recent days after his showing at Tom Brady’s Fanatics flag football game,” Schultz posted to X. “Beckham was one of the most impressive players on the field and fully intends to play in 2026, per sources.”

Beckham made it clear following the game that he’s still looking for an NFL opportunity, despite not being on a roster last season and managing just 44 catches since 2022.

“Looking forward to hopefully getting the opportunity to play this year, and this is kind of just the starting point,” Beckham said.

The path is also open for Beckham to make Team USA and be a member of the Olympic team that will compete in Los Angeles in 2028.

“Odell is a great athlete. He made an excellent catch in our first game, like, ‘Woah,’” Team USA head coach Jorge Cascudo said. “There are a lot of athletes who are extremely talented. Right now, for the NFL, the quicker adjustment, I would say, would be the receivers, because they’re just running routes and catching… I think Odell was one of the best.”

Odell Beckham Has History With Browns

Cleveland could be part of the conversation as Beckham pursues a comeback. The sides have history, although not all of it is good. The Browns acquired Beckham from the Giants in 2019 in a blockbuster deal and his time in Cleveland was turbulent — injuries, sideline drama and a mid-season release in 2021. However, he did leave on good terms and there have been whispers about a Cleveland return previously.

Additionally, new head coach Todd Monken could give Beckham a fresh slate in Cleveland and has some familiarity with OBJ. Monken coached Beckham in Baltimore in 2023. He posted 565 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 14 games. Monken also coached Beckham during his first season in Cleveland back 2019.

The familiarity matters, and so does Cleveland’s current wide receiver room, which remains one of the thinnest in the league entering the offseason.

Any team that signs Beckham will do so on a low-cost, incentive-heavy deal — a prove-it arrangement that puts the burden squarely on him in training camp and preseason.

Browns Likely to Pursue Receiver in Draft

The Browns have yet to make a meaningful splash at wide receiver this offseason. Their lone addition — former Ravens wideout Tylan Wallace — brings limited production, with just 22 career receptions.

That leaves the pressure squarely on the draft to deliver a true difference-maker. Cleveland holds two first-round picks at No. 6 and No. 24, and wide receiver is firmly in play at one — if not both — spots. The team has cast a wide net throughout the pre-draft process, hosting top-30 visits with prospects such as Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson, Makai Lemon and Denzel Boston.

The Browns can’t afford to leave April without adding a receiver capable of emerging as a go-to option for Shedeur Sanders or whoever ultimately claims the starting quarterback job.
