U.S. Senator Slams Boots on the Ground in Iran, “How Many Kids?”

Sen. Ruben Gallego

The Wall Street Journal is being criticized for publishing an op-ed titled ‘American Credibility Is on the Line in Iran,’ which encourages President Trump to send American troops on the ground in Iran. It reads: “President Trump must put boots on the ground to open the Strait of Hormuz and demonstrate the unquestionable supremacy of American power.”

The subhead title of the article, written by Seth Cropsey, a former Defense Department official during the George W. Bush administration and retired Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy, reads: “If Trump leaves the job unfinished, it will do to the U.S. what the Suez crisis did to Britain and France.”

U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), a retired U.S. Marine Corps Corporal who served in the Iraq War, responded to the essay by writing on social media: “How many kids of Wall Street Journal reporters and editors do we think would be part of an invasion force?”

The liberal outlet The Tennessee Holler reacted with a similar response: “NEW RULE: Anyone writing op-Eds about how we should send in troops to die should be forced to go to the front lines themselves and enlist their own children You first, @sethcropsey — and @WSJ y’all can go with him.”

New Hampshire Republican State Rep. Matt Drew, noting that Cropsey’s piece is behind a paywall, also responded to the WSJ op-ed: “Can’t read the article, but I suspect they don’t present any reasonable strategic case for HOW to do so. Because it’s pretty much a rat trap.”
