With Opening Day almost here, the Philadelphia Phillies have added to their pitching depth by bringing back one of their former prospects.
The Phillies have announced that right-handed pitcher Griff McGarry has been returned to the club from the Washington Nationals.
The Phillies lost McGarry to the Nationals during the offseason, as Washington selected him at the Rule 5 draft. However, McGarry’s time with the Nationals was short-lived, as he was designated for assignment by Washington over the weekend. Now, with this news, he is heading right back to the Phillies.
The Phillies also shared that they have assigned McGarry to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. With this, the righty will once again be a part of the Phillies’ pitching depth and could be a call-up candidate for when injuries arise.
McGarry is an interesting pitcher, as the 26-year-old is able to hit 100 MPH with his fastball. While he has not made the major league level yet, he has decent potential and will be looking to take a step forward this campaign after being brought back by Philadelphia.
In 21 games this past season split between Single-A, Double-A, and Triple-A, McGarry had a 2-5 record, a 3.44 ERA, and 124 strikeouts.
