Browns Linked to Making Surprising Blockbuster Trade for $27.2M Receiver

The Cleveland Browns are linked to making a blockbuster move to address the receiver position.

Cleveland’s general manager, Andrew Berry, hinted at the team making a move to bolster its offense. Yet, the Browns haven’t added anything to the offense, and now, the team could look to make a blockbuster trade.

Dallas Cowboys writer Brian Martin of SB Nation links the Browns to trading for star receiver George Pickens for the 24th overall pick and the 107th overall pick.

“The Browns need as much help as they can get, especially on the offensive side of the ball,” Martin wrote. “One of their biggest roster needs is wide receiver and in this year’s draft class who can step in and make them better as much as George Pickens? He’s someone they can continue to build around for the future.”

The trade would be a blockbuster and a surprising move from the Browns. Yet, if Cleveland is going to trade for Pickens, it likely would have to come with an extension.

The Cowboys franchise tagged Pickens, and if he signs it, he would earn $27,298,000 in 2026. In his first year in Dallas, Pickens was dominant as he recorded 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Cowboys Could Move Pickens

Although Pickens was an impact receiver for Dallas last season, the Cowboys could trade him.

Pickens is in line for a massive payday, and if they can’t reach a long-term extension, he could be dealt.

“The Cowboys have shown a willingness to trade their star players for significant draft pick compensation,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport said on NFL GameDay Morning. “Maybe those players have the same agent in David Mulugheta. I’m just saying, it’s an interesting situation to consider.”

Pickens is no doubt looking for a long-term extension, and if Dallas can’t give it to him, the team could look to explore a trade to recoup some assets.

And, Dallas is in a good spot where the Cowboys have CeeDee Lamb as a true No. 1 receiver, so Dallas could trade Pickens.

Browns Could Upgrade at Wide Receiver

Cleveland’s offense has some major question marks, especially at receiver.

The Browns’ No. 1 receiver is Jerry Jeudy, so the team could use an upgrade. However, Berry said he does like the team’s receivers, but is leaving the door open to add.

“I think we can add all across the offense to be honest,” Berry said at the draft combine. “We’re really pleased with some of the younger players we have. Jerry [Jeudy] is gonna be a big part of it, and we’re pleased with Isaiah’s rookie year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t add to the arsenal. Malachi [Corley], he carved out a nice role.

“But we probably look at it more like global weapons and global pass catchers and Harold [Fannin Jr.] would be a part of that, obviously. Q is a weapon for us. You want to look at it as the overall infrastructure as opposed to one position.”

Berry, meanwhile, has confidence that Jeudy can turn back the clock and be much better than he was last season.
