Warriors Get Major Stephen Curry Injury Update Before Celtics Game

The Golden State Warriors have been without their franchise star for nearly seven weeks, but the latest Stephen Curry injury update is a great sign for the team, as there is optimism the 38-year-old will make a return very soon.

Speaking on NBA Today, insider Shams Charania revealed a new Curry injury update, signaling that the team leader could return to action at some point this month.

While there was previously a concern that Curry would miss an even longer period of time with his ‘runner’s knee’ injury, all the latest updates point to the fact that he is ramping up on a return for the Warriors.

Curry isn’t officially set to be re-evaluated for a few more days, but according to Charania, the star is making good progress as it relates to getting back on the court for Golden State.

“There is cautious optimism that Stephen Curry will return to the line-up by the end of the month,” he said on NBA Today. “That’s after, I’m told, he had a strong on-court workout Tuesday afternoon in Boston, starting to run, cut, move, take some slight contact, like the Stephen Curry that we know.”

While the latest injury update on the star from the team was that he would be re-evaluated on March 21, it was the third time in a row the Warriors announced a ‘ten-day re-evaluation‘ timeline, so any hope that he would get back on the court by then was always relatively slim.

But as Charania reported, the swelling on Curry’s knee has gone down, making the chance of of an injury return in the near future all the more likely.

“He’s not experiencing the swelling that he’s had over the last several weeks,” he added. “So now it’s about building on his conditioning, getting more and more comfort in that knee before he makes a decision to get back on the court.

While Charania’s insight was the most recent Curry injury update, Warriors insider Anthony Slater hinted at a similar sentiment a few days ago, that the star was slowly ramping up for a return, and that the recovery process has been going well.

“Curry has advanced to court work in recent days, which is a significant step in his attempted return,” he wrote. “Team sources have continued to describe Curry as extremely motivated to return for the stretch run and try to work the wobbling Warriors into the playoffs through the play-in bracket. He will intensify court work in the coming days.”

Gary Payton is probable, while Quinten Post and LJ Cryer are both questionable for the game.

Good news for Golden State is that Kristaps Porzingis is set to play, as he’s reportedly turned a corner with his health issues.

The Latvian is coming off the best game of his brief Warriors’ tenure, scoring 30 points against the Washington Wizards.

“Kristaps Porzingis reiterated after shootaround in Boston this morning that he’s ‘feeling like myself‘ again and his health is on a positive trajectory,” Slater wrote in a post on X. “He’s scored 17, 20, 30 in 20, 22, 26 minutes his last three games. Cleared to play at Celtics tonight.”

Though getting Porzingis healthy for an extended period is a key priority for the Warriors, they still have several major injury concerns facing the team, and any potential playoff hopes for the rest of the season.
