Eagles Get Good News on Dallas Goedert After Pair of Tight End Signings: Report

Tight end Dallas Goedert isn’t on the Philadelphia Eagles roster. But technically, he isn’t a free agent either.

ESPN’s Zach Berman reported Wednesday the NFL doesn’t have the veteran tight end listed as a free agent. Berman added on X that Goedert’s void date “has been pushed back to Friday.”

That gives the Eagles extra time to negotiate a new contract.

“This procedural move would give both sides a chance to work out a contract extension,” wrote Berman.

That’s great news for the Eagles. Although Goedert turned 31 years old in January, he led Philadelphia with 11 receiving touchdowns during 2025.

The eight-year veteran, who has spent his entire career with the Eagles, also had 60 catches for 591 receiving yards last season.

The Eagles came into the offseason with major uncertainty at tight end. The team’s top three players at tight end in terms of offensive snaps last season were all pending unrestricted free agents.

However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Tuesday the Eagles re-signed Grant Calcaterra. He finished second among Philadelphia tight ends in receiving last season. Over four seasons, Calcaterra has posted 42 receptions, 494 receiving yards and two scores.

Also on Tuesday, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the Eagles agreed to a 1-year contract with veteran tight end Johnny Mundt.

General manager Howie Roseman has an opportunity to really solidify tight end with Goedert returning as well.

Will Eagles Re-Sign TE Dallas Goedert?

Goedert’s departure appeared to be a foregone conclusion following the 2025 season.

NFL.com’s Nick Shook wrote on May 7 last year that the Eagles nearly traded the tight end during the 2025 NFL Draft. Instead, Goedert and the team reworked his contract for the final season of his deal.

Still, pundits had Goedert in the trade rumor mill throughout last summer. Then during the regular season, a lot of NFL draft pundits projected the Eagles to target Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

All Goedert did in response to all that speculation was lead all tight ends in touchdowns during 2025. In fact, only Davante Adams had more receiving touchdowns in the entire league.

After that strong season, it’s not surprising the Eagles are considering a reunion. In all likelihood, it would be a 1-year deal.

In eight seasons, Goedert has posted 4,676 receiving yards on 409 catches. He also has scored 35 touchdowns in 108 games.

Before last season, his career high in touchdowns was five.

That probably makes it unlikely Goedert will repeat his 11 scores from a year ago. But then again, the Eagles would have been in big trouble had the offense not had the tight end to score all those touchdowns last season.

Eagles Re-Sign Grant Calcaterra, Add Johnny Mundt

With the prospects of bringing back Goedert, the Eagles are close to making tight end a strength again. That’s because the team addressed the position with two different moves Tuesday.
