Bam Adebayo’s Historic 83 Draws Playful Warning From Giannis

The next opponent waiting for the Miami Heat after Bam Adebayo’s historic 83-point night had a message for the All-Star center — even if it came with a smile.

Giannis Antetokounmpo joked that he and the Milwaukee Bucks will try to make sure Adebayo does not repeat the feat when the teams meet Thursday.

“We’ll try not for [Bam] to score 83,” Antetokounmpo said with a laugh. “He’s going to score 82.”

The two-time MVP paused briefly before delivering the punch line.

“So we do our best for him to score 82, not 83.”

The playful jab comes just right after Adebayo delivered one of the most remarkable scoring performances in NBA history.

Bam Adebayo’s 83-Point Game Makes NBA History

Adebayo stunned the basketball world when he poured in 83 points in Miami’s 150–129 victory over the Washington Wizards.

The performance became the second-highest scoring game in NBA history, trailing only the legendary 100-point game by Wilt Chamberlain in 1962.

The Heat star finished with 83 points on 20-of-43 shooting, while also delivering one of the most unusual statistical lines ever seen from a center.

Adebayo converted 36 free throws on 43 attempts, both of which set new NBA single-game records.

His 43 attempts surpassed the previous record of 39 held by former All-Star center Dwight Howard.

Meanwhile, the previous record for free throws made in a game — 28, shared by Chamberlain and Hall of Famer Adrian Dantley — was eclipsed comfortably.

Adebayo also attempted 22 three-pointers, tying the third-most attempts in a single game in league history.

Despite the massive scoring total, he nearly recorded a double-double, finishing with nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Previously Defended Bam Adebayo

Antetokounmpo has also publicly defended Adebayo amid criticism surrounding the performance.

“Incredible. Incredible,” Antetokounmpo said when asked about the historic scoring night.

“It doesn’t matter how you get it. All that means is that you got it.”

The Bucks superstar argued that historic scoring achievements are ultimately remembered for the final number rather than the details behind them.

“In 10, 20, 30 years from now, nobody’s going to remember how many free throws he shot,” Antetokounmpo said.

“All you remember is 81, 100.”

For Antetokounmpo, the most important takeaway was simple: the Heat won the game.

“At the end of the day, he got 83 points,” Antetokounmpo said. “And obviously — did they win? Great way to help your team win a game.”

The friendly tone between the two All-Star big men is not surprising.

Adebayo and Antetokounmpo are both represented by Alex Saratsis of Octagon Basketball.
