Taylor Swift is planning for her upcoming wedding with Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, but amid that excitement, she has received some important career news. On Thursday, March 5, Billboard announced news about Swift that should make both the singer and her record label happy.
Swift, of course, released her 12th studio album, “Life of a Showgirl,” in October 2025, and the record continues to break ground. Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” song off the new album has remained on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 21 weeks, as of Monday, March 2, according to research from the industry outlet Chart Data. The song also topped the chart at No. 1 for 10 weeks.
But, that’s not even the news that’s so good heading into the weekend. Swift and her label Universal Music Group hit a milestone in 2025, and it’s because of the singer.

According to research from Billboard, Universal Music Group (UMG) reported a revenue of $14.7 billion for the full year ending on December 31, which was up 8.7% from the same time in 2024.
So, UMG’s revenue grew nearly 9 percent in 2025, and Billboard points out that much of that has to do with Swift. The powerhouse’s revenue was “driven by sales of Swift’s latest album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ and an 8.6 percent uptick in subscription streaming revenue,” Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot of Billboard report.
Other top artists in their catalog for 2025 included Sabrina Carpenter, the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, Morgan Wallen and Lady Gaga.
“[Last year] was the third year in a row that we have represented nine out of the top 10 best-selling artists on the planet,” UMG CEO and chairman Lucian Grainge said on a call with investors. “The only recording artist whom we did not represent is Bad Bunny, and he’s represented by our Universal Music Publishing division.”
Taylor Swift Still Dominates the Charts in 2026 With ‘The Life of a Showgirl’
When “The Life of a Showgirl” hit in October, it was obvious it would go places. The album received positive reviews out the gate.
“Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ combines new, exciting sonic turns with incisive storytelling,” Rolling Stone stated in its review of the album at the time. Maya Georgi of Rolling Stone added, “On her 12th studio album, Swift hits all her marks — from new, exciting sonic turns to incisive storytelling.”
Now, even months after the album’s release, the single “Opalite” continues to stay atop the charts. The song is also No. 1 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart in its 20th frame on the tally, according to Forber. That becomes her milestone 15th No. 1 and ties Swift with Maroon 5.
“Now that ‘Opalite’ has climbed as high as possible, Swift ties the all-time record for the most champions on the Adult Pop Airplay list,” McIntyre adds. “Swift is on the same level as Maroon 5, and the pop band is now forced to share an honor it has held for quite some time.”
McIntyre adds, “Unlike Swift, Maroon 5 has not added to its total in more than half a decade. The last time the Grammy-winning outfit scored a new leader was in December 2019, when ‘Memories’ finally lifted to the top space.”
