Thursday night is shaping up to be a big moment for the new-look Washington Wizards. For the first time in the NBA, the star guard Trae Young will suit up and play for a team that isnât the Atlanta Hawks.
While the Wizards arenât getting double the excitement on Thursday with Anthony Davis, they do have a positive update to offer on the star big man. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Davis has an updated injury timeline as heâs able to get back to work soon.
via Michael Scotto: Washington Wizards star Anthony Davis will be re-evaluated in two weeks. Davis, who is out with ligament damage in his left hand, continues to progress as expected and has been cleared to begin limited individual on-court basketball activities.
The last time Davis took the court was during a Dallas Mavericks-Utah Jazz game on January 8.
As a member of the Mavericks, Davis checked in for 35 minutes. After going 10-20 from the field, scoring 21 points, and coming down with 11 rebounds, Davis was seen in discomfort as he grabbed at his hand. It was evident he was dealing with a significant injury, and that was indeed the case. Davis underwent surgery, and his future came into question.

The Wizards saw an opportunity to buy low on another star. Since Davis couldnât contribute to any teamâs situation for at least a couple of months, the Wizards had a great opportunity to make a deal with the Mavericks, who wanted to move his contract off the books.
Now, the Wizards hope that Davis and Trae Young can help the organization go from a rebuilding roster to a competitive one in the Eastern Conference.

Davisâ future plans have had a lot of dueling reports. When he was with the Mavs, signs were pointing to Davis undergoing season-ending surgery. He denied that he was finished.
After landing with the Wizards, it was once again reported that Davis would eye next season to make his debut. The Wizardsâ front office denied that it was ever discussed. The expectation is that as long as Davis gets healthy with games left on the schedule, heâll make his debut alongside Trae Young, who was moved to the Wizards from the Hawks.

For the time being, Davis will remained focus on his recovery. Considering he has an extensive injury history, getting back to one-hundred percent is absolutely key for the Wizards.
Before going down this year, Davis appeared in 20 games for the Mavericks. Seeing the court for 31 minutes per game, the veteran has produced 20.4 points (50% FG), while collecting 11.1 rebounds, coming up with 1.1 steals, and 1.7 blocks.
Prior to his short-lived run with the Mavs, Davis spent six seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and seven seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans. Soon, he’ll begin his new journey in Washington DC.
