Davis bicyclist killed in crash with teen on e-bike

A bicyclist was killed in a crash with a teen riding an electric bike on a Davis path, the city’s police department said.

The collision was reported at 2:48 p.m. Monday, March 2, on a paved multi-use path that runs alongside the Davis High School campus and an adjacent park. Police said they have not determined the exact circumstances of the crash.

The bicyclist — Julie Veress, 60, of Davis — was pronounced dead at the scene. The e-bike’s rider, a 16-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries.

Veress was a nurse at Sutter Health’s Davis hospital, the company said in a statement.

The police did not specify what type of e-bike the boy was riding. Some are legal for use on bike paths.
