Broncos Named in Eye-Opening Alvin Kamara Trade Scenario

The Denver Broncos are once again being floated as a potential landing spot for a familiar name.

In a recent roundup of offseason trade ideas, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox proposed a deal that would send New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara to Denver.

The suggested framework was modest:

“Broncos Get: RB Alvin Kamara,” Knox wrote. “Saints Get: 2026 7th-round pick, conditional 2027 6th-round pick.”

Knox acknowledged that Kamara might not appear to be an obvious trade candidate, noting the five-time Pro Bowler is entering his age 31 season and is coming off what he described as a “career-worst year” while recovering from a sprained MCL.

Still, he argued that a move “could have a substantial impact on free agency and the draft,” particularly if Kamara landed with “a Super Bowl contender like the Denver Broncos.”

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine separately connected the Broncos to Kamara as well. Ballentine cited the possibility of a reunion with former Saints head coach Sean Payton.

That combination of speculation has fueled fresh buzz around whether Denver could actually pursue the veteran back.

Broncos Urged to Resist Reunion With Former Star

Not everyone believes it would be a wise move.

In a separate analysis, Broncos reporter Zack Kelberman pushed back strongly on the idea of Denver trading for Kamara. Kelberman argued that while a reunion might have made sense years ago, the timing now raises concerns.

“If this were 2018, 2019 even 2024 Payton would be justified in attempting to reunite with his former star pupil,” Kelberman wrote. “But the calendar says otherwise and Kamara’s tape does, too.”

Kamara played just 11 games last season, totaling 471 rushing yards and 186 receiving yards with one touchdown. He averaged 3.6 yards per carry, a significant drop from his peak production in New Orleans.

Kelberman described him as a running back who has crossed the 30-year-old threshold after nearly a decade of heavy usage.

From Denver’s perspective, Kelberman suggested the Broncos would be better served keeping their draft capital and aiming higher at the position through free agency.

Kenneth Walker II, Tyler Allgeier, and Breece Hall are among the other potential names Denver has been connected to in free agency and would represent stronger options.

Broncos Must Weigh Financial Impact of Kamara Trade

There is also the financial side to consider.

Kamara is due an $11.5 million base salary and is scheduled to count more than $18 million against the salary cap in 2026. While the proposed compensation is light, absorbing that contract would not be insignificant.

Kamara has also publicly expressed his desire to remain in New Orleans. He even hinted in the past that he would consider retirement if traded.

For now, the idea remains speculative. But with multiple Bleacher Report analysts connecting Denver to the veteran back, the conversation is unlikely to fade anytime soon.
