Team Canada takes on Czechia in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Czechia defeated Denmark in their qualifying round game on February 17, 2026. Colorado Avalanche forward Martin Necas recorded one goal and one assist to lead his team to a 3-2 victory. Vancouver Canucks forward David Kampf also recorded a goal in the win.
Canada has Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers), Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins), and Macklin Celebrini (San Jose Sharks) to thank for leading its offensive charge. McDavid has averaged three points per game during the Olympics, while Crosby and Celebrini have both collected six points each.
What if Canada Beats Czechia?
If Canada beats Czechia, they will need to wait for the last two quarter-final games to be played before they know who their next opponent will be. Canada was the top seed after the preliminaries, so they will play the team that finished last among the remaining countries.
Germany and Sweden finished the preliminaries in sixth and seventh, respectively. Germany has already lost, but if Sweden defeats the USA, Canada will play Sweden in the semi-finals.
However, if Sweden loses too, Canada would play the winner of the Switzerland-Finland game. Slovakia finished preliminaries as the 3rd seed, while the USA finished second. Switzerland and Finland finished fifth and fourth, respectively. The semi-finals are scheduled for Friday, February 20, 2026.
Canada vs Czechia Quarter-Finals: Who is Scratched & Who is Playing?
TSN’s Ryan Rishaug recently reported on the likely scratches for Canada heading into the quarter-final match on February 18.
“Sam Bennett and Josh Morrissey out this morning with Kuemper,” Rishaug posted early on February 18th, 2026. He followed that up with another post, “Both guys still going after almost half an hour, and putting in enough work to suggest they won’t be in for the QF. Both look fine, shooting and skating looks normal.”
According to Rishaug, Sam Bennett (Florida Panthers), Josh Morrissey (Winnipeg Jets), and Darcy Kuemper (Los Angeles Kings) will be Canada’s scratches for their quarter-final game against Czechia.
