Seahawks LB Says Drake Maye Was the Patriots Whole Team

The Seattle Seahawks, for the second time in franchise history, are Super Bowl Champions after defeating the New England Patriots 29-13. Just like in their previous Super Bowl win, the defense was suffocating. Through three quarters, the Patriots had zero points and were struggling even to move the ball past midfield.

Every unit of the defense had highlight-reel plays, from the defensive line to the linebackers to the defensive backs; it was a total team effort that shut down the Patriots’ offense.

Head coach Mike Macdonald had a wonderful game plan that the Seahawks executed to near perfection. According to a key player on the Seahawks, the plan was simple: stop Drake Maye, and the rest would fall into place.

The Whole Team

Seahawks linebacker Uchenna Nwosu made a memory to last a lifetime when he returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown to seal the game and a championship.

Postgame, Nwosu spoke about the team’s game plan and their confidence in stopping Drake Maye, which ultimately shut down the whole team. Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune posted a video of Nwosu’s answers on his Twitter.

“The plan was to get to Maye to disrupt him. We knew he’s their whole team. He’s an MVP runner-up. He could’ve been MVP, so we knew if we affected him, their whole game plan would be nothing, so we did a great job of that today, and guys executed.”

Three turnovers and six sacks later, the Seahawks had completed their mission in shutting down Maye and cruised to hoisting the Lombardi trophy. Macdonald drew up the perfect game plan for the Patriots, and the team executed it.

Macdonald Proud of the Defense

The Seahawks put together one of the most impressive defensive outings in Super Bowl history, and head coach Mike Macdonald could not be prouder of the unit. He is a meticulous planner, and he felt the team executed their game plan as well as they could. Ari Horton of Seahawks.com wrote about Macdonald’s satisfaction with the defense in his press conference the morning after the Super Bowl.

“I told the team on Saturday night I got a bad habit of, himming and hawing in my office, with the rest of our coaching staff,Macdonald said. Thinking about plays and what we’re going to run and how it’s gonna go, and then and then you get around the guys, and you see them, and all of a sudden, all those worries kind of go away, magically, and I think that speaks to how they played. It became very clear very early that they were a determined bunch that we were going to play our style ball last night and at that point, really, the plays became irrelevant. It was really the style of how the guys played, just to play that relentlessly throughout the game was really impressive and really proud of those guys that played in it. That was a remarkable game by our defense.”

Macdonald and the Seahawks made history on Sunday, and it all came down to their game plan of relentlessly attacking and confusing Drake Maye.
