Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams did not participate in the Super Bowl this year, but the reigning Most Valuable Player in the NFL was still a topic of discussion as the Seattle Seahawks took on the New England Patriots.
Stafford and the Rams fell to the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game.
However, his team’s efforts against the NFC West rivals proved more compelling than what the Patriots were able to do on the night, sparking a fitting wrap-up on a polarizing discussion.
Matthew Stafford Gets Strong Comments From Former Rams Teammate, Ex-Seahawks Star

Stafford completed 62.5% of his passes for 374 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions in the NFCCG against the Seahawks, which the Rams lost 31-27.
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was also a finalist for the MVP.
However, he struggled to move the football against the same defense. Maye had a 240-2-2 line on 59.4% completion after cutting the Seahawks’ lead over the Patriots to 29-13 with 2:21 to go in the game. The discourse had already gotten underway.
“Staff vs Seahawks looks a bit different than Maye,” former Rams safety Eric Weddle said in a post on X. “We know what were talking about when it comes to MVP and levels to QB play.”
Former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, a star on the vaunted Legion of Boom defense that keyed Seattle’s last championship team, posted on X, “So when the MVP arguments are had. This tape should end that discussion. Stafford [put] on a master class against this same defense that Maye has 18 yards against currently with 7:34 left in the 3rd Q.
“He has had a great season and will have an MVP in his future but it was Stafford year.”
Weddle, who played for the Rams with Stafford on their 2021 Super Bowl-winning team, agreed with Sherman, replying, “yep” in the comments and further driving home a discussion that raged throughout the season.
Maye, who was sacked 6 times on Sunday, led the Patriots to the No. 2 scoring offense and the third-ranked offensive unit overall. But Stafford and the Rams ranked first in both categories.
Meanwhile, Stafford led the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns during the regular season.
Stafford’s historic postseason showing against the Super Bowl champions did not count toward his MVP win. It does, however, make a fine stamp for the Rams star, Stafford, in light of Maye’s showing.
Rams ‘Won’ Key Trade

Stafford and the Rams will have to live with the fact that their division rival is the Super Bowl champion. They still got a confirmed victory of sorts.
Atlanta Falcons pass rusher James Pearce was arrested over the weekend on multiple charges stemming from a domestic incident. The severity of the situation has left Pearce’s future in the NFL in doubt. The Falcons traded up with the Rams during the 2024 draft to select Pearce.
That drew the Rams some unlikely praise as a result of the unfortunate development.
Several fans and even sports betting markets chimed in about how the Rams officially won the trade that landed the talented pass rusher with a conference rival.
The Rams already had a case as the winners of the deal anyway. It positioned them to potentially select Stafford’s replacement. Despite his play, Stafford turned 38 on February 7 and dealt with a back injury last offseason. Finding the QB of the future could prove prudent.
