Chiefs Urged to Make All-In Super Bowl Move With $106 Million Edge Rusher

The Kansas City Chiefs found themselves in an unfamiliar spot as the calendar flipped to 2026 — watching the NFL playoffs from the couch.

One analyst believes the Chiefs can give Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the roster an immediate Super Bowl boost this offseason, suggesting they make a run at a star edge rusher who is expected to hit the trade block.

Chiefs Urged to Push All-In on Maxx Crosby

Reporter Fernando Alfaro-Donis of SI.com suggested the Chiefs could face a dilemma in the coming season as they aim to make another run at the Super Bowl despite an aging core. He wrote that the team may need to make a big move to give the group another chance at contending.

“Chris Jones isn’t the same dominant force he was on the defensive line, and their inability to find him a running mate has cost them now that he’s aging,” Alfaro-Donis wrote. “Travis Kelce’s future with the team is up in the air, but even if he comes back, his decline has been steady. What can the Chiefs do to bolster their roster and extend their championship window with their current corps?”

That big move could be pushing in their chips and trading for Maxx Crosby, the Las Vegas Raiders star who is reportedly on the outs with this team. He suggested the Chiefs could land the $106.5 million edge rusher with a pair of first-round picks and a player, who he believed would be George Karlaftis.

Crosby would likely give the trade his blessing, Alfaro-Donis suggested.

“Crosby has been a long-time fan of Patrick Mahomes’ competitive spirit, so to see them on the same team would be a spectacle,” he wrote. “There’s no guarantee the Raiders are going to move off of Crosby, but if a trade package looks too appealing to pass up, I think they’d be inclined to listen.”

Maxx Crosby Pumps the Brakes

Reports indicated that Crosby grew upset with the team when they placed him on injured reserve for the final two weeks of the season, even though he felt healthy enough to play. The tensions reportedly grew even more during the offseason, leading to suggestions that he wants out.

Crosby addressed the trade rumors this week, suggesting that not everything reported has been true.

“For me, I just sit back and laugh because I know my truth and when I go to bed at night I have a smile on my face because I don’t have to explain nothing to nobody,” Crosby said during an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, via Bleacher Report.

Crosby said it’s not worth his time to correct all the incorrect reports.

“So all the noise, it’s news to me sometimes,” he added. “I got up two days ago, I looked at my phone, and all of a sudden now I’ve got a bunch of PR people talking about what Maxx is doing. I just laugh, because if I address it then someone’s going to pick apart what I say there. It’s a lose-lose.”
