Former Bucs OC Lands New Job With NFC Playoff Team

It didn’t take long for Josh Grizzard to find another job, and it’s a high profile one at that.

Grizzard, who was fired after one season as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this month, will be the new Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach in 2026.

“More help in Philadelphia: Eagles are hiring former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard as their pass game coordinator, per sources,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on his official X account on Friday. “Grizzard now will join new Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion to lead Philadelphia’s offense.”

The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles fired their offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo, after one season and following an embarrassing home loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Wild Card Round.

Grizzard started off the season as one of the more buzzed-about assistant coaches in the NFL and even was being mentioned as a possible head coaching candidate following a 5-1 start to the regular season.

Injuries and Grizzard’s inability to retool the offense to the personnel available was one factor in Tampa Bay losing 7 of its last 9 games and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2019.

The Buccaneers hired recently fired Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson to replace Grizzard.

“Congrats to Josh Grizzard, the Bucs former offensive coordinator who was a bit of a scapegoat for the 8-9 season,” Tampa Bay Times NFL reporter Rick Stroud wrote on his official X account. “He gets a fresh start with the Eagles as the pass game coordinator.”

Stroud is spot on when he calls Grizzard the scapegoat for the Buccaneers this season.

Head coach Todd Bowles went to the tried and true playbook of firing a coordinator to keep your own job just one day after it seemed like he barely held onto his job.

“A significant change for Bucs coach Todd Bowles: He’s firing OC Josh Grizzard, per The Insiders,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on X on Thursday, January 8. “There could be other staff changes. But Baker Mayfield will have a new play-caller.”

Grizzard took over for current Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen, a leading NFL Coach of the Year candidate, who took over for current Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales.

The Panthers snapped the Buccaneers’ streak of 3 consecutive NFC South Division titles this season as Tampa Bay’s offense looked completely lost down the stretch, losing 7 of 8 games before taking down the Panthers in the regular season finale.
