The Minnesota Timberwolves will face the Dallas Mavericks on the road on Wednesday, January 28, but they may be without their best player.
Anthony Edwards is listed as questionable with right foot injury maintenance on the official injury report. He had 32 points, 11 rebounds and two assists on 65% shooting from the field and 57.1% shooting from three in a 111-85 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, January 25.
Edwards is having arguably his best NBA season, averaging a career-high 29.7 points to go along with 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists on 49.9% shooting from the field and 41% shooting from beyond the arc (both percentages are career highs).
Is Anthony Edwards Playing Tonight?
Edwards missed some games with a right foot injury earlier this season, and it appears the Timberwolves want to give him a rest day on the first night of a back-to-back. The team will play the defending-champion Oklahoma City Thunder at home on Thursday, January 29.
Minnesota, won’t take any chances with Edwards if he is not feeling 100%. The team will likely evaluate pregame and then make a final decision on his status. If Edwards is out, Mike Conley will likely start in his place, and Bones Hyland could see more minutes off the bench.
Leonard Miller (lower back spasms) is questionable for tonight’s game. Terrence Shannon Jr. remains out with a left foot injury.
Minnesota Timberwolves Trade Rumors
The Timberwolves are in need of a point guard to play opposite of Edwards and could be active in trying to acquire one as the trade deadline approaches.
Coby White continues to be a name with a lot of buzz and has been linked to Minnesota for a couple of months. The Chicago Bulls are reportedly seeking an unprotected first-round pick in a trade for the seventh-year player out of North Carolina.
Tre Jones and Ayo Dosunmu are also options for the Timberwolves amid the glut of point guards in Chicago who may be easier to acquire than White. The former is signed for two more seasons (including a club option for 2027-28).
Ja Morant is another name that has been floated for Minnesota to pursue. However, a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies is unlikely given the point guard is making roughly $39 million this season, and the Timberwolves would have to include multiple important players in a deal to match his salary.
