Cowboys Seek to Poach Eagles Coach as NFC East War Heats Up

For the Cowboys, there is perhaps some measure of satisfaction in the fact that they remain the only team outside of Philadelphia to claim an NFC East title in the past four seasons. Dallas managed to win the division in 2023, while Philly has won it in 2022, 2024 and 2025.

Now, the Cowboys appear to be playing a bit of a game with the Eagles, something along the lines of, if you can’t beat them, take their coaches. Dallas and head coach Brian Schottenheimer did just that this week with the hiring of defensive backs coach Christian Parker away from the Eagles, making him the team’s new defensive coordinator.

The Cowboys appear to not be done with the Eagles, staff though–they’ve also sought out Ronnell Williams, who is close to Parker and has been on Philadelphia’s defensive staff for the past three years.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, who wrote on Twitter/X: “The Cowboys are interviewing Eagles assistant LB coach Ronell Williams, who was the team’s nickel cornerback coach in 2023, per source. Obviously has a background with new DC Christian Parker.”

Christian Parker Seeking to Add More to Cowboys Staff

In addition to Williams, Parker is also hoping to bring Vikings defensive line coach Marcus Dixon to the Cowboys, though in what capacity remain uncertain.

As the Cowboys’ team website wrote: “Dixon, 41, has spent the last two seasons helping Brian Flores to elevate the defense in Minneapolis and who also spent time in the same role for the Denver Broncos, when Parker was the team’s defensive backs coach, and that relationship has swiftly led to the Cowboys’ new defensive coordinator seeking him out.”

Parker has yet to meet with the media and outline his plans for filling out his staff, but he is clearly already moving to bring in coaches with whom he is comfortable.

Cowboys in Aaron Whitecotton Dilemma

With that in mind, the Cowboys are in a bind with defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton, who is a popular figure on the Dallas staff, especially after his well-documented work with Quinnen Williams while both were with the Jets. Williams is one of the most important defensive players on the Cowboys roster now, because he was brought in for one of the first-round picks the team got in the Micah Parsons trade.

Williams has credited Whitecottom with turning him into an All-Pro. But Whitecotton has gotten interest as a potential defensive coordinator with Robert Saleh, the new coach of the Titans, who was the head coach while Whitecotton was in New York.

Said Whitecotton at the Shrine Bowl this week, “I’m just trying to live in the present,” Whitecotton said. . “I’m so busy with this East-West game and what we’ve got going here in Dallas. I haven’t [interviewed with the Titans yet], so I haven’t really had a chance to go through that in my mind. The game has been an incredibly good distraction.

“I don’t have to sit there and think about this or think about this, I’m working my butt off trying to get these boys ready to play. I think that’s kind of where my mind’s at right now.”

Eagles’ Request for OC Denied

Adding another layer to the drama around the coaching staff, especially as it relates to the the Eagles, is a new report that Philadelphia sought to poach Klayton Adams, the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator, for the same role in Philadelphia.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote on Twitter/X: “The Eagles requested to interview Cowboys OC Klayton Adams for their offensive coordinator job but Dallas blocked the request, per league sources. Dallas finished second in total offense and values Adams.”
