Eagles Face Uncertain Future as Giants Optimism Grows Following John Harbaugh Hiring

The Philadelphia Eagles have a lot of things to address this offseason following a disappointing end to the 2025 season. And with that, some are unsure what direction the franchise will go in after their first-round exit.

Meanwhile, the New York Giants, which are also in the NFC East, have a lot of people talking, thinking that their future is VERY bright. And much of that centers around the latest news that dropped just before the start of the Divisional Round.

On Saturday, the Giants finalized a five-year contract to make former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh the new leader in New York.

“We are proud to name John Harbaugh as the next head coach of the New York Giants,” Giants owner John Mara said in a statement. “Joe Schoen presented us an outstanding group of candidates, which allowed us to be deliberate and confident in this decision. Through numerous conversations, John consistently stood out for his conviction and vision for leading a winning organization, and we welcome him and his family to the Giants.”

Since Thursday, the expectation has been that the Giants would be hiring Harbaugh, but it seems the deal took a few days to iron out.

“It was building the football operations structure. The conversations with John and Chris Mara and Joe about that were great,” Harbaugh told The Athletic’s Ian O’Connor. “We’re not going to be much bigger operationally, but it takes time to put that together in negotiations. It finally came together and I like the start of where we are going, but we still have to build it out. We’re on the same page with it.”

At the beginning of the season, there was a lot of chatter regarding whether the Eagles would trade wide receiver A.J. Brown, but that ended at the trade deadline when Philadelphia opted to keep him. However, those talks have just gotten louder in recent weeks, with many thinking Brown’s time with the Eagles has come to an end following the team’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round.

Yet, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman downplayed this topic when asked after the season.

“It is hard to find great players in the NFL, and A.J. is a great player,” Roseman said (via ESPN). “I think from my perspective, that’s what we’re going out and looking for when we go out here in free agency, in the draft, just trying to find great players who love football, and he’s that guy.”
