1 dead, 1 rescued after boat capsizes on Lake Michigan

A man from Oak Forest died and another was rescued Friday afternoon after their boat capsized on Lake Michigan near East Chicago, Indiana.

Officials responded about 1:30 p.m. to the lake, where one man, also from Oak Forest, had already been pulled from the water by a witness, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Strong winds, large waves and nearly freezing water hindered the search, which ended about two hours later when the Lake County Aviation Unit located the other victim, identified as 73-year-old Thomas Barragan, officials said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other information was available.
