Prep roundup: San Ramon Valley blanks Foothill in EBAL baseball opener

San Ramon Valley entered its East Bay Athletic League baseball opener against Foothill having lost three of its previous four games.

It took one inning for the Wolves to take control Wednesday.

Jack Yribarren’s two-run single to right highlighted a three-run opening frame as host SRV won 4-0 to give the Danville school back-to-back shutouts.

The Wolves beat Rodriguez-Fairfield 2-0 on Saturday after losing to College Park, Benicia and Serra.

Drew Stasch’s sacrifice fly began the scoring on Wednesday.

After Yribarren’s hit made it 3-0, SRV widened the margin to four in the third when Stasch scored on an error after Colton Fitzgibbon singled to left.

Ryan Gehrke shut down Foothill’s offense, scattering two hits and five walks over five scoreless innings.

Owen Morgan pitched the final two frames to complete the shutout.

SRV, ranked 16th by the Bay Area News Group, improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the EBAL.

No. 13 Foothill fell to 6-2, 0-1.

California 5, Dublin 2 (9 innings)

Grayden Wright, Jacob Casiano and Angelo Sherman each had an RBI in the ninth inning to break a tie and lift visiting California to a hard-fought victory over previously undefeated Dublin in EBAL play.

Dublin evened the score in the bottom of the seventh when Dominic Bantique scored on a fielder’s choice.

Logan Kellogg and Casiano each had two hits for the Grizzlies, who got 5 ⅓ innings of one-run ball from Brayden Gijbels.

California upped its record to 4-1, 1-0. Dublin dropped to 8-1, 0-1.

Monte Vista 3, Amador Valley 2 (9 innings)

Sebastian Storz’s bunt single knocked in Caden Boscia with the decisive run in the top of the ninth as Monte Vista edged Amador Valley in an EBAL game.

Boscia finished with two hits and scored three runs, Miguel Saavedra had two hits and Easton White, Torin Dunphy and Zane Worth doubled for Monte Vista (2-6, 1-0).
George Fagundes and Gavin Whalley had two hits apiece for Amador Valley (4-1, 0-1).

No. 2 Granada 8, Dougherty Valley 2

Granada stretched its winning streak to five games as Tyler Palma had three hits and two RBIs and Peyton Richards added three hits – including a triple – and scored twice to lead the Matadors over host Dougherty Valley in an EBAL game.

Mikey Boyd doubled twice and scored two runs for the reigning NorCal Division I champs, who scored the first three and final five runs of the game.

Granada improved to 5-1, 2-0. Dougherty Valley is 1-6, 0-1.

Willow Glen 8, Palo Alto 3

Miles Austin had two hits and knocked in two runs and Zachary Maxson also had two RBIs as Willow Glen rolled at home over Palo Alto in a non-league game.

The Rams built a seven-run cushion through five innings, withstood a three-run Palo Alto rally in the sixth and went on to improve to 5-2.

Palo Alto, which got RBIs from Justin Fung, Michael Wu and Cormac White, fell to 1-5.

Los Gatos 6, Leland 0

Five pitchers combined on a three-hitter and Hudson Schrader drove in two runs as Los Gatos defeated host Leland in non-league play.

The Wildcats scored five runs in the third and added another run in the sixth as they ran their record to 7-2.

Chase Oberthier pitched three scoreless innings for Los Gatos.

Leland slipped to 3-4.

Softball

Pinole Valley 10, De Anza 0 (6 innings)

McKenzie Ortega pitched a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts and had three hits, including a home run and a double, drove in three runs and scored three runs to lead Pinole Valley to a six-inning, run-rule victory at De Anza in Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division play.

Ayla Serrano also had three RBIs and Mariah Davidson knocked in two as Pinole Valley improved to 6-1, 4-0.

De Anza is 1-3, 1-2.

No. 2 Willow Glen 5, Branham 0

Alanna Clincy struck out 10 and allowed two hits and Catalina Medina had three hits and scored twice to lift Willow Glen past host Branham in a Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division game.

Maia Mendoza and Sienna Wilson each drove in two runs for the Rams, who improved to 5-0, 1-0.

Branham dropped to 4-5, 0-1.

Wilcox 11, No. 20 Sobrato 3

Wilcox erupted for six runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to erase a two-run deficit as the Chargers roared past host Sobrato in a non-league game.

Tyler Scott finished with three hits and three RBIs and Evelyn Carter had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Chargers (4-3).

Julia Carlsen and Jordan Bouton each had two hits for Sobrato (5-1).

No. 15 Foothill 8, Granada 7

Sophia Burdick had four hits and scored two runs and Jordan McCafferty added three hits and knocked in a run as Foothill held off Granada in EBAL play.

Delaney Aumua hit two home runs and had four RBIs for Granada, which rallied for four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh only to fall short.

Foothill is 5-2-1, 1-0. Granada is 3-3, 1-1.

Mt. Pleasant 35, Overfelt 18

In a BVAL West Valley Division game called after three innings, Mt. Pleasant prevailed on the road over Overfelt by a football-like score.

Leah Gonzales tripled twice, doubled and drove in five runs and Brooklyn Flores had four hits and knocked in two runs to lead Mt. Pleasant, which improved to 1-3, 1-0.

Overfelt is 0-1, 0-1.
