Diamondbacks 1, Rockies 0
Wednesday at Salt River Fields
On the mound: The Rockies used a bullpen game against the D-backs, with right-hander Jake Woodford getting the start. He pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up the only run on an RBI single to Lourdes Gurriel Jr. in the third. Woodford gave up two hits, walked one and struck out two. … Right-hander Jimmy Herget, looking more and more like a lock to make the bullpen, pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up a hit. … Right-hander Jake Bird continues to pitch well. His two scoreless, hitless innings whittled his ERA to 2.77. He struck out two.
At the plate: Outfielder Jordan Beck, who entered camp intending to prove he deserved a starting spot, has had a disappointing spring and will almost certainly open the season at Triple-A Albuquerque. He entered Wednesday’s game batting .182, but his 2-for-4 day (a single and a double) lifted his average to .208. … The Rockies managed six hits but were 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position. … Leadoff hitter Brenton Doyle went 2 for 3, raising his average to .304.
Up next: Rockies at Rangers, 7:05 p.m. (MDT) Thursday
