Woman who jumped from 3rd floor during home invasion dies

A 20-year-old Steger woman has died after she and a man jumped from a third floor window to flee an armed home invasion over the weekend in South Chicago.

An autopsy was scheduled for Mariah Ivy, who was pronounced dead Monday at 2:21 p.m. at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Ivy and a man were inside a third floor apartment on Saturday about 5:15 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue when an unknown gunman who walked up the stairs shouted a threat at the pair, who jumped from the window to escape, according to a police report.

Ivy and the man were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where the man was in serious condition, according to the report.

One shell casing was found in the apartment and no one has been arrested.

Detectives are investigating.
