SANTA CLARA – A 41-year-old Livermore man was arrested last week on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child he met online in Santa Clara, according to authorities.
Officers launched an investigation after meeting with the victim and the victim’s mother on March 10, the Santa Clara Police Department said in a news release. They determined the suspect and the victim met on a social media site and then met in person two separate times in the parking lot of Buchser Middle School in Santa Clara.
On each occasion, the suspect sexually assaulted the victim in a vehicle, police said.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as Gilberto David Nietoromo. On March 13, he was taken into custody near Industrial Way and South Vasco Road in Livermore.
Nietoromo was booked into Santa Clara County jail on felony charges including sexual assault, lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old and false imprisonment, as well as misdemeanor charges including sending harmful material to a minor.
Detectives have identified at least one additional victim in San Jose and believe there may be others, police said.
Anyone with information related to the case and any possible additional victims can contact Detective David Britton at 408-615-4821 or djbritton@santaclara.gov.
