High surf advisory affecting Los Angeles County beaches Thursday and Friday – breaking waves of 6 to 9 feet foreseen

Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches and Ventura County Beaches are included in a high surf advisory issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 1:05 a.m. The advisory is valid from Thursday 9 a.m. until Friday, Mar. 14 at 3 p.m.

The NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA says to expect, “Large breaking waves of 6 to 9 feet in Ventura County and 4 to 7 feet in Los Angeles County with dangerous rip currents.”

“There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” the NWS said. “Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
