Three-car rollover crash in East Bay kills woman, critically injures another

HAYWARD — A three-car rollover collision on Friday night killed a person, critically injured another and hospitalized two others, police said.

Authorities identified the 20-year-old Hayward woman who died in the wreck as Elizabeth Fuentes , of Hayward. The crash happened at the intersection of Hayward Boulevard and Civic Avenue about 9:35 p.m.

Police said it was third fatal wreck they have investigated in their city this year.

Another passenger in that car, an 18-year-old woman whose place of residence was not disclosed, remained in critical but stable condition at a hospital Monday, police said. A male under 18 years old who was a passenger was hospitalized and expected to make a full recovery, while the driver was not injured. He provided a statement to officers, police said.

A 21-year-old man driving a second car in the crash also was hospitalized with what police called minor injuries. The 37-year-old man who drove the third car complained of minor injuries but did not go to a hospital.

Police did not say how the crash happened. They have not arrested anyone and are awaiting the result of toxicology tests to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
