One dead after small fire in side yard of Concord residence

CONCORD — A person died Wednesday night after a fire in the side yard of a residence, according to fire officials.

Fire crews were called to the 2600 block of Saratoga Avenue, between Esperanza Drive and Port Chicago Highway, about 6:15 p.m., according to a social media post by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

The fire was a small one in the side yard of the residence that had been extinguished when crews arrived, officials said. They later found a person dead.

Officials did not have any other information regarding that person. Authorities did not identify the victim immediately, pending the investigation and notification of relatives.

Investigators have not determined what started the blaze, but officials said it is not considered suspicious.
