Suspect arrested in Oakland freeway shooting

OAKLAND – A suspect was arrested in connection with a shooting on a freeway Wednesday in Oakland, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 7:30 a.m. on southbound Interstate 880 north of 16th Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim was not injured and returned home.

The CHP then received word that the suspect was possibly driving in the victim’s neighborhood.

Oakland police officers were dispatched to the area, where they found the suspect’s vehicle parked and unoccupied, authorities said. They placed the car under surveillance and eventually detained two people who were seen entering the vehicle.

One of the individuals, a 19-year-old Oakland man, was identified as a suspect in the shooting, according to the CHP. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Authorities said a loaded handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was found at the suspect’s home.
