But when Perego wanted to expand their already-big family, Saldana made it clear she had reached her limit.</p>

After finding someone she felt she could share children with, she gave birth to twins Cy and Bowie in 2014. Then, she had their last child, Zen, in 2017. Since starting their family, the <em>Emilia Perez</em> star and her life partner have been calculated with how they raise their kids. Particularly, it’s been important for the parents to defy stereotypical gender roles when being role models for their family. They already took steps to break down societal norms when <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/what-happened-when-zoe-saldanas-husband-took-her-name.html/”>Perego took his wife’s last name</a> upon marriage.</p>
<p id=”par-3_71″>“We have a very gender-neutral environment where my husband participates in a lot of tasks that were normally given to women and vice versa,” she once told <a href=”https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-moms/news/how-zoe-saldana-keeps-home-gender-neutral-for-3-sons/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Us Weekly</a>. “I get to do a lot of male things, which is, I don’t know, put the TV together, fix things that break. We’re sort of a very gender-fluid household. I think it’s important to raise boys in that environment, and girls as well.”</p>
<p id=”par-4_21″>Saldaña also confided that she values the challenges and educational experiences that come with living in a household full of boys.</p>

<p id=”par-5_74″>“I’m enjoying being in a house full of men. I grew up in a house full of women, so I feel that either the universe is being ironic with me or it’s being absolutely purposeful, and I’m accepting the challenge,” she once said, according to <a href=”https://www.eonline.com/news/837887/zoe-saldana-describes-the-joys-and-challenges-of-raising-three-boys” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>E! News</a>. “I love raising boys. There’s so much that I’m learning about men by seeing them in their early stages in life. Our kids are wonderful. They’re happy!”</p>
<p id=”par-6_48″>However, the topic of having another kid has come up between her and her husband before. It seemed Perego wanted to add an additional member to the family in the hopes of getting a daughter. But Saldaña felt three were enough. Her husband would have to accept that.</p>

I [told my husband], ‘No. The answer is no,’” she said in a separate interview with <a href=”https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-moms/news/zoe-saldana-doesnt-have-plans-for-baby-no-4-answer-is-no/”>Us Weekly</a>. “I’m like, ‘You only give me boys, so just get over it. You need to come to terms with this.’”</p>
<p id=”par-8_20″>“It’s like, ‘Let’s raise amazing, elegant men that will bring home even better women,’ you know? That’s it,” she added.</p>

However, she wanted to wait before disclosing specific details about the process.</p>
<p id=”par-10_90″> “This is something we’re being very meticulous about because of the process of how we completed our family,” Saldaña said in a 2017 interview with <a href=”https://people.com/parents/all-about-zoe-saldana-kids/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>People</a>. “When we’re there, when the time comes and our third baby is a little older, and all the forces that helped us have him with us are comfortable, then we will share it because we know it would be very positive and inspiring to many families that are looking to complete themselves and are not able to do it in the conventional way.”</p>
<p id=”par-11_30″>She’s also addressed how different it can be raising Zen from his older brothers. With his older twin brothers, Saldaña admitted Zen had to make sure he didn’t get excluded.</p>
