Arrest made after minor thrown from horse during Peninsula riding lesson

DALY CITY — A 29-year-old San Francisco woman was arrested Saturday after police said she startled a horse and caused it to throw off a minor student who was riding the animal last month.

It all happened during a riding lesson Feb. 23 at the Thornton Beach Recreation Area, according to a statement from Daly City police Sgt. Matthew Ciucci.

Officers arrested the woman on suspicion of felony child endangerment and took her to the San Mateo County jail in Redwood City. Jail records did not list her in custody on Monday.

According to police, the woman snuck up behind the horse and pulled its tail while the rider still was in the saddle. The fall injured the young rider, though police did not release more information on the nature of the child’s injuries.

Police said the woman left the scene before police arrived but that they later identified her and found her. They are still seeking information and urged anyone with anything to share regarding the incident to call the Daly City police investigative division at 650-991-8270.
