Did Any Angie Stone Songs Hit No. 1?

Even when an artist is gone, their music can live on forever. For example, Angie Stone gave us many great R&B songs that people will be enjoying for years to come. This raises an interesting question: did she ever have a No. 1 hit? Here’s a look back at her biggest singles in the United States.

Angie Stone had 3 hit songs but none of them hit No. 1

Stone was most known for singing R&B and neo-soul songs, many of which were ballads. Between her 1999 debut album, Black Diamond, and her 2023 album, Love Language, she put out 10 albums over the course of her life. She also made appearances in many movies and television shows.

Despite her impressive accomplishments, she never had a top 40 single on the <a href=”https://www.billboard.com/artist/angie-stone/chart-history/hsi/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Billboard Hot 100. In total, three of her songs charted: “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” in 1999, “Brotha” in 2001, and “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” in 2002. The songs reached No. 56, No. 52, and No. 79, respectively.

While none of those songs were radio staples, they each showed off the breath of Stone’s talent. “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” is a warm self-empowerment anthem with a hint of G-funk. It’s a beautiful song that deserved a lot more attention. It’s a lot more popular on YouTube than you might expect based on its chart position.

“Brotha” is a much more confident song that could be understood as both a love song and a track about Black excellence. Either way, Stone’s voice and presence really shine on “Brotha.” Her final hit, “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” is a lot more vulnerable, but the James Bond-style strings give the track a lot of spice. While it’s not as famous as “No More Rain (In This Cloud),” “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” was probably the best of her hits.

What Angie Stone had to say about modern music

Stone largely fell from public view after 2002, but she still kept up with the R&B scene. During a 2018 interview with <a href=”https://thesoulhouse.net/2018/07/05/interview-angie-stone/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The House That Soul Built, Stone seemed hopeful about the future of her signature genre. “Well, I just think that music is making its way back around to goodness again with Daniel Caesar, H.E.R, and a couple of artists that are really reaching back and getting more involved with the creative process of music,” she said. “And you find that when people are being creative, is when you’re getting real music. When people are doing other people’s music, it’s not as authentic. It’s ‘I borrowed this from you,’ so who am I really listening to?”

Stone also discussed her relationship with God. “Well, I was always taught that he was the divine creator of all, the author and the finisher,” she said. “Everything that I do, I owe to him because, without him, I would be nothing or no one. I think that everything I’ve become and will be has everything to do with who he is. And that’s why I really don’t have time for the rubbish.”

We can only hope that Stone is showing off her incredible voice in the great beyond.
