Bay Area man accused of sexually assaulting woman in Marin Headlands pleads guilty

A Rohnert Park man pleaded guilty Tuesday to committing a sexual assault in the Marin Headlands.

Esbin Ramirez-Garcia, 28, could face up to life in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

As part of his guilty plea, Ramirez-Garcia admitted that he contacted a former girlfriend and gave her a ride from her workplace last August. They argued after she declined to resume their relationship.

Ramirez-Garcia drove to a parking lot in the Marin Headlands and sexually assaulted her, authorities said. The site, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, is in federal jurisdiction.

U.S. District Judge William Alsup scheduled the sentencing for May 28. Ramirez-Garcia’s public defender could not be reached for comment.
