SAN FRANCISCO — A possible collision between a BART train and a person on the tracks closed down BART’s Civic Center station on Tuesday morning, officials said.
BART called the incident a “major medical emergency,” but spokesperson Jim Allison said only that a collision “may have occurred.” He confirmed that a person had been on the tracks.
The emergency occurred about 8:45 a.m., according to BART spokesperson Jim Allison. Details on what happened were not available immediately.
Trains did not stop at the station following the incident. They ran through the station slowly on a single track opposite of where the incident happened. The single-tracking started at Embarcadero and ran to the 24th Street stations, Allison said.
San Francisco Muni honored BART tickets and shuttled customers between the Embarcadero and the Civic Center stations.
In the aftermath, BART also said it had closed its green line service between the Berryessa and Daly City stations. Passengers traveling from San Francisco were told to board a Dublin/Pleasanton-bound train and transfer at the Bay Fair station to a Berryessa-bound train. Riders coming from Berryessa were told to board a Richmond-bound train and transfer at Bay Fair station to a Daly City-bound train.
It was not known immediately if the green line closure was related to the emergency on the tracks.
