OAKLEY — A man suspected of driving the vehicle that hit and killed a bicyclist two years ago has been arrested, authorities said.
Police arrested the 57-year-old Oakley resident on Feb. 20 at about 3 p.m., according to a statement from the City of Oakley. He is suspected of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run, police said.
The arrest stems from the December 2023 collision at the intersection of Bridgehead Road and Main Street. According to police, the driver of a vehicle hit the bicyclist and fled the scene.
The bicyclist died there.
The ensuing investigation involved many officers, and they eventually identified the suspect and presented their case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities issued an arrest warrant and have been on the lookout for the suspect since then.
Police said they arrested him after following his vehicle and stopping him near Sellers Avenue and Golden State Parkway.
Jail records did not list the suspect in custody Tuesday morning.
