Two Chicago police officers were injured while pursuing a stolen vehicle Thursday evening in Chatham on the South Side.
The officers noticed a stolen silver Volkswagen and attempted to stop the vehicle about 6 p.m. in the 8200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, police said.
The Volkswagen fled in traffic, striking one officer and nearly striking another, police said. Both officers were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The Volkswagen rammed into a vehicle, then hit an unoccupied squad car before fleeing onto the Dan Ryan Expressway, police said.
State troopers stopped the vehicle minutes later, but the suspect fled and troopers stopped chasing the Volkswagen after a short pursuit, Illinois State Police said.
The Lake County, Indiana, sheriff’s office was also involved in the pursuit and arrested the suspect, police said.
The sheriff’s office hasn’t yet provided details on the pursuit.
Area detectives were investigating.
