Former Centennial gymnastics coach sentenced to at least 11 years in prison for child sex assault

A former Centennial gymnastics coach convicted of child sexual assault was sentenced to at least 11 years in prison on Monday, according to the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office.

Erik Ray Oldham, 39, was convicted of child sexual assault, enticement and coercion following a jury trial in April.

Oldham was the owner and coach of A+ Athletics until August 2021. In late 2021, an individual came forward with allegations about Oldham’s behavior connected to an athlete in the program, according to previous reporting. He was arrested in May 2022.

Part of Oldham’s sentence includes an indeterminate term in the Colorado Department of Corrections, which means the state’s Sex Offender Management Board will decide when or if he is released from prison based on his involvement in treatment, conduct in prison and risk level.

If he does not participate in treatment or is a high risk to reoffend, he could spend life in prison, according to the district attorney’s office.

Oldham was also sentenced to a range of 20 years to life on parole.

Through his attorney, David R. Jones with Denver law firm Decker & Jones, Oldham said he is innocent of the charges and plans to appeal.

In a statement, Assistant District Attorney Ryan Brackley said the DA’s office is pleased with the sentence.

“…the Court recognized that Mr. Oldham violated the trust that the victims and their families place in him and sentenced Mr. Oldham to separate, consecutive sentences recognizing the harm he caused to each of the young men,” Brackley said.
