The Shops at Northfield is losing a second major retailer.
JCPenney plans to close its store at 8568 E. 49th Ave. in Denver within the open-air mall by May 25, a spokesperson told BusinessDen on Tuesday.
Seven additional stores in other states also are slated to close, according to Axios.
The Macy’s store within The Shops at Northfield, which sits at the north end of the Central Park neighborhood, is also scheduled to shutter.
Los Angeles-based Stockdale Capital Partners owns The Shops at Northfield, with the exception of Target’s real estate. Macy’s used to own its building but sold it to Stockdale in 2023.
Other major tenants at the mall include Bass Pro Shops and a movie theater.
The future of the mall will likely go beyond retail. Stockdale has proposed building more than 1,000 apartments on a portion of its property.
