Semitruck driver killed in Wednesday morning crash with snow plow on I-25

An early morning crash on Interstate 25 in southern Colorado’s Huerfano County killed the driver of a semitrailer and sent a snow plow driver to the hospital, according to Colorado State Patrol.

State patrol officials said the two-vehicle crash happened on northbound I-25 near milepost 57, just north of Walsenburg, at 4:53 a.m. Wednesday. Investigators believe the semitrailer rear-ended the snow plow.

The driver of the semitrailer died at the scene of the crash and paramedics took the snow plow driver to a hospital with unknown injuries, state patrol officials said. It is not clear if the snow plow was among the Colorado Department of Transportation’s fleet.

According to CDOT, the right shoulder of northbound I-25 is closed for the crash cleanup and investigation between Exit 56 for Redrock Road and Exit 59 for Butte Road, about 7 miles north of Walsenburg. Walsenburg is about 37 miles north of Trinidad.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact state patrol officials at 719-544-2424.
