OAKLAND — A person was arrested Monday on suspicion of shooting up an occupied police vehicle in what authorities say “may” have been an attempt to hurt or kill the officer.
The officer was uninjured, but the vehicle was struck multiple times, police said.
The suspect was arrested Monday afternoon. The shooting occurred about 30 minutes after midnight, on the 6000 block of Seminary Avenue in East Oakland.
Police haven’t released the suspect’s name, gender, or age. They also haven’t identified the officer by name or gender.
Authorities say the officer was in his or her car, investigating another incident, then heard gunfire and realized the vehicle was being struck by bullets. The officer wasn’t injured.
An Oakland police news release says the officer “may” have been the intended target but doesn’t say whether police identified a potential motive.
