Colorado weather: Friday’s warm, dry, windy weather turns cold with potential for weekend snow

A week of mild weather in Denver will give way to snow Friday night, while Colorado’s southern plains can expect a dry, windy day, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures in Denver are expected to reach 63 during the day before falling to 29 overnight. A chance of rain and snow is forecast between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., followed by a chance of snow lasting into Saturday morning.

The snow may return Saturday night before arctic-cold temperatures return starting Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a Red Flag Warning is in effect in Huerfano and Las Animas counties, reflecting relative humidity as low as 10%, daytime temps of 70 degrees or higher and punishing winds that could gust up to 60 mph.

“Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically,” the National Weather Service wrote in its warning. “A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.”
