The first significant rain in months surprised Disneyland employees and customers at Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond last week when water began flowing through the carriage house doors and into the new gift shop next to the Haunted Mansion.
“Unfortunately, as the water began to trickle down the incline from the bridge over Tiana‘s Bayou Adventure towards New Orleans Square it followed the path of least resistance directly into Madame Leota‘s new shop,” according to MiceChat. “Cast members acted quickly to close the shop and sandbags were placed in front of the door to divert the flow.”

Disneyland is working quickly to fix the problem with more rain in the forecast later this week.
Disneyland teams will replace concrete on the east side of Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond beginning on Monday, Feb. 3 to improve drainage in the area, according to Disneyland officials.

The shop will stay open during the drainage work that will take approximately one month with the doors closest to the Haunted Mansion exit remaining accessible.
Exterior props and theming will be removed during the project and reinstalled when the work is done.

Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond opened on Dec. 23 just in time for Christmas and a few weeks before the Haunted Mansion returned following the removal of the seasonal holiday overlay.
The gift shop sells Haunted Mansion and “Nightmare Before Christmas” apparel, accessories, collectibles and home decor.
The shop is filled with antique desks, cabinets and chests “kindly lent” from the collection of the fortune teller whose disembodied head floats inside a crystal ball in the seance room of the Disneyland dark ride, according to the backstory created for the shop.
