Since then, she became more critical of the way that Mick Jagger and company treated her.</p>

<p id=”par-2_73″>Faithfull’s career is inextricably linked with The Rolling Stones. She dated Jagger and they were one of the only celebrity couples to come out of the British Invasion. In addition, Jagger and Keith Richards co-wrote two of Faithfull’s <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/marianne-faithfull-felt-hit-version-the-rolling-stones-as-tears-go-by-happy.html/”>signature songs: “As Tears Go By”</a> and “Sister Morphine.” Interestingly, The Rolling Stones covered both of those songs after Faithfull released them. She also served as the muse for some of The Rolling Stones’ songs.</p>
<p id=”par-3_49″>During a 2011 interview with <a href=”https://www.loudersound.com/features/marianne-faithfull-interview-2011″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Louder</a>, Faithfull discussed The Rolling Stones at length. “Trouble is the Stones don’t give points,” she opined. “Mick won’t do it. They don’t ‘write’ with other people — in theory. But they were grateful to use my mind and my talents — without credit. </p>
<p id=”par-4_65″>“I kinda knew that was the deal, but when I was with Mick in the mid-60s, I was really young and naïve, so I sacrificed my name,” she said. “Obviously, I also contributed to ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’ and ‘Dear Doctor’ — junk songs.” When Faithfull said ‘junk songs,” she was clearly <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/mick-jagger-said-the-rolling-stones-their-satanic-majesties-request-inspired-acid-not-the-beatles.html/”>referring to drugs</a> rather than the quality of the tracks.</p>

The ballad merely reached No. 42 and charted for eight weeks.</p>
<p id=”par-8_106″>Since then, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” has become one of The Rolling Stones’ most popular songs. While “Honky Tonk Women” is another formulaic Rolling Stones rocker (albeit a great one), “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” showed off a more sensitive side of the band — and that resonated with a lot of people who weren’t interested in The Rolling Stones. Since its underwhelming chart performance, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” has appeared in movies, commercials, and campaign rallies. It might be the band’s most beloved song at this point — and it’s definitely their most beloved ballad by far.</p>
