Wrong-way driver killed in Auburn Gresham crash

A driver who veered into oncoming traffic to pass other motorists in Auburn Gresham was killed in a collision Friday night.

Around 5:15 p.m., the 30-year-old man was driving a Buick sedan east in the 7600 block of South Parnell Avenue when he tried to pass other cars and drove into the opposite lanes. He struck a Kia sedan that was traveling west on Parnell. His car spun out and hit a Mitsubishi sport-utility vehicle, Chicago police said.

The man suffered multiple injuries and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Drivers of the other vehicles declined medical attention, police said. No other injuries were reported.

CPD’s Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
