Two undocumented migrants — one wearing a GPS monitoring device — killed a 63-year-old Northwest Side man during a robbery after he met them on a dating app, police sources said Friday.
One of the suspects was wearing an Immigration and Customs Enforcement monitor during the killing, the sources said. The GPS device allowed police to place the man at the scene of the killing Sunday in the 7600 block of West Talcott Avenue in Norwood Park, the sources said.
An ICE spokesman said he couldn’t immediately respond for comment.
Jefferson Ubilla-Delgado, 29, and Geiderwuin Bello Morales, 21, were both charged with murder and the robbery of someone over 60 years old, according to Chicago police. It’s unclear which suspect was wearing the GPS monitor.
The victim, George N. Levin, had his hands bound with duct tape and his legs tied with a black electrical cord and a sock lodged in his mouth held closed by duct tape, according to a police report.
His 65-year-old sister found him in his basement bedroom partially clothed. He died of multiple injuries, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Levin’s sister told police she last saw him around 7 p.m. Sunday when they had dinner at home. After eating, he went downstairs, where he lived.
Around 8:30 p.m., the sister said she heard a loud noise from his apartment and went to check on him, according to police reports.
After noticing the back door open, she saw a person she didn’t know and asked them: “Is my brother OK?”
“Yes, I am with your brother. I will have him call you,” they responded, according to a police report.
Levin’s sister told officers his cellphone, car keys and wallet were missing.
According to court records, Bello Morales had been arrested on Jan. 12 near his apartment in the 6200 block of North Sayre Avenue and charged with a misdemeanor count of assault, with charging documents indicating he “gestured toward” a 12-year-old girl to get her to come over to his car. A police report lists his place of birth as Venezuela.
