One man is dead and another is in critical condition after they were both wounded in a shootout by a man they were allegedly trying to rob in North Lawndale Friday morning, police said.
The two alleged robbers, ages 20 and 42, approached another man in the 800 block of South Homan Avenue around 5:20 a.m. and announced a robbery, according to Chicago police. The robbers and victim fired shots at each other and the 42-year-old man was shot in the head and was dead on the scene.
The 20-year-old man was shot in the neck and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
The robbery victim was a licensed gun owner and had a valid Firearm Owners Identification card and concealed carry license, police said. He was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in good condition for observation.
Two weapons were recovered from the scene and Area 4 detectives are investigating.
