Man arrested in connection with assault at Berkeley home

BERKELEY – Authorities on Wednesday announced the arrest of a 27-year-old Emeryville man in connection with a violent assault earlier this month in Berkeley.

Two victims were attacked at a Fairview Street residence on Jan. 12, the Berkeley Police Department said in a news release.

“During that incident, the suspect allegedly participated in a physical assault that left one victim with multiple injuries,” police said.

A second suspect, a woman, was arrested when she returned to the scene, police said.

The man was taken into custody Tuesday outside an Emeryville residence. Police said an illegal firearm was also recovered.

“The recovery of an unlawfully possessed firearm during this operation has made our community safer and demonstrates our commitment to removing illegal weapons from our streets,” Berkeley police Capt. Mike Durbin said in the news release.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be forthcoming, police said.
