<p id=”par-1_37″><a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/actors/”>Actor</a> Nathan Fillion and<em> The Rookie</em> welcomed both Jenna Dewan and <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/the-rookie-casts-jenna-dewans-real-life-fiance-steve-kazee-as-her-husband.html/”>her husband Steve Kazee</a> to the long-running police procedural. Dewan plays firefighter Bailey, who meets Fillion’s John Nolan in one of the show’s most memorable scenes.</p>

<p id=”par-2_99″>It was hinted pretty strongly that Dewan would be Fillion’s new love interest in <em>The Rookie. </em>Although some might feel it’s time for <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/the-rookie-nolan-bailey-need-break-up.html/”>the couple to break up</a>, they’re still going strong several seasons later. Dewan’s Bailey first showed up to Nolan’s front door step wearing a towel after locking herself out of the house next door. Bailey and Nolan’s relationship would only grow from there. Despite their sometimes clashing personalities, the characters found common ground in their passion for public service. And Dewan felt the towel scene was the perfect way to establish the vibe between the two.</p>
<p id=”par-3_83″>“The infamous towel scene, it just immediately worked,” Dewan said in an interview with <a href=”https://parade.com/tv/the-rookie-season-7-nathan-fillion-jenna-dewan-premiere-interview”>Parade</a>. “We went, ‘Oh, wow, this is really easy to work together.’ And that’s rare, and that’s special. I think it’s just easy and flows and it’s fun. The combination of the two, John and Bailey, being so different but having this common thread of they’re on purpose in their work and they love what they do, and it is high-risk jobs. So I think there’s commonality as well.”</p>
<p id=”par-4_18″>Additionally, Fillion gave his opinion on why his relationship with Dewan clicked so well after their initial meeting.</p>
<p id=”par-5_70″>“I think we all know couples who have excellent chemistry. We all know those couples. John and Bailey are certainly very different. Bailey, like we said, is incredibly capable and just full of surprises. If she said, ‘Oh yeah, by the way, I’m also a…,’ and then threw something out there, I think he’d buy it. I’d think, ‘Oh, really? That makes sense with everything else you are,’” he said.</p>

<p id=”par-6_43″>Bailey’s relationship with Nolan has gone through quite the metamorphosis since they crossed paths in season 3. Not only has Nolan had to deal with the dangers of being a police officer, but his profession has also put Bailey in jeopardy as well.</p>
<p id=”par-7_65″>Still, the two managed to survive crazy criminals and just as crazy exes, with their bond growing stronger each time. The pair would eventually end up marrying each other, which has opened up several other storytelling possibilities. One of them being the two potentially having kids. Speaking with <a href=”https://collider.com/nathan-fillion-the-rookie-season-7-jenna-dewan/”>Collider</a>, both Fillion and Dewan opened up about what they thought of their characters raising a family.</p>
<p id=”par-8_43″>“Certainly, the stakes go up because this is two people with very dangerous jobs. She’s running into literal fire, and I’m running toward people firing bullets. The stakes are high if you want to have a long life to raise children,” Fillion said.</p>
<p id=”par-9_7″>Dewan echoed Fillion’s thoughts on the matter.</p>

<p id=”par-10_110″>“Yeah, it complicates things because we do have very difficult, life-altering jobs. This is not just go to the office from 9 to 5 days, so that complicates things with thinking about also having to raise children,” she said. “And of course, as everyone knows, children change everything, including your work and including your relationships. So I think we grapple with that want and then the reality of what that would look like, which I think is very normal for people in the world who are considering kids. I like that we don’t know where we end on it. We kind of go up and down and all around with it.”</p>
<p id=”par-11_108″>It wasn’t the first time the topic of Bailey and Nolan having kids came up. Dewan was pregnant in real life during season 6 of the show. She was even seen<a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/very-pregnant-jenna-dewan-shows-baby-bump-plunging-gown.html/”> showing off her baby bump</a> in April alongside her husband Kazee. Because of this, there was speculation that series creator Alexi Hawley might have Bailey pregnant as well. Nolan already had a son named Henry and was adamant that he didn’t want to have kids again. This would’ve further complicated a possible storyline where Bailey was pregnant. Hawley told <a href=”https://www.assignmentx.com/2024/the-rookie-creator-and-executive-producer-alexi-hawley-gives-the-scoop-on-season-6-and-more-exclusive-interview/”>Assignment X</a> at the time they were already figuring out ways to handle Dewan’s pregnancy in <em>The Rookie</em>.</p>
<p id=”par-12_65″>“I think what I can say is that it will be a conversation. Henry is basically out in the world and graduating college and working a job. And so, conversations about whether he felt like he was done with that or not, and then whether Bailey even wants kids. To a certain extent, all of that will come into play in this season,” he said.</p>
<p id=”par-13_19″>In the end, Hawley decided not to have Bailey pregnant, and simply wrote around Dewan’s circumstances for the season.</p>
