These Bay Area bars, bakeries and restaurants are stepping up for Los Angeles wildfire victims

The restaurant industry has been through thick and thin in recent years, but the resilience and teamwork in emergency situations continues to inspire local institutions to help out any way they can.

In the Bay Area, several bars, restaurants and bakeries have gotten creative in their efforts to raise money for those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires.

We’ve put together a list of some these restaurants and will update it as we learn more:

Tony & Alba’s Pizza and Pasta, San Jose

In an ode to the late Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, the pizzeria created “The Mamba,” a cheese pizza made with red sauce, mozzarella, provolone and Parmesan cheese, topped with garlic oil and herbs. Tony & Alba’s will donate $5 for every “Mamba” they sell through the end of February.

Friends and Family, Oakland

The bar usually donates proceeds from a special shot called “Daily Affirmations” to fundraise for gender-affirming surgery, but will instead donate all its January proceeds to L.A. fire relief efforts.

Polaris Cafe, Emeryville

On Saturday, Jan. 18, from 8 a.m. to noon, Polaris Cafe will offer a special drink and breakfast menu with 100% of the proceeds going to World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit that provides food emergency food relief.

Flea St. Cafe, Menlo Park

For the entire month of January, the American restaurant will donate half of all cocktail and mocktail sales to World Central Kitchen.

Popoca, Oakland

Known for its wood-fired pupusas, the popular Salvadoran restaurant will be donating all proceeds from its loroco pupusas to mutual aid funds helping those affected by the L.A. fires.

Of All Places, Berkeley

The specialty market plans to donate 10% of all January wine sales to a GoFundMe supporting essential workers impacted by the fires.

Rose Pizzeria, Berkeley

This Berkeley pizzeria has created an LA-inspired specialty, with 15% of the sales through Feb. 5 going to displaced residents in emergency shelters, food banks and homeless shelters.

Trick Dog, San Francisco

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, Trick Dog will donate 100% of its sales to Another Round Another Rally, a nonprofit that supports the hospitality industry with emergency assistance. The bar will be honoring Los Angeles by recreating cocktails from five of their favorite LA bars: Thunderbolt, Death & Co., Mirate, Employees Only LA and Dante Beverly Hills.

Black Jet Baking Co., San Francisco

Black Jet is selling an 8-inch coconut cake ($70) that features the inscription, “I LOVE L.A.,” to raise money for the nonprofit Restaurants Care, which is providing assistance to hospitality workers affected by the wildfires.

The Snug, San Francisco

The Snug is raising money by donating $3 from each specially-made cocktail called “City of Angels” to the California Fire Foundation and the Pasadena Humane Society. The drink features your spirit of choice, kumquat, floral and rosemary vermouth, citrus and rosewater.

18 Reasons, San Francisco

The culinary school is joining food group Proof Collective to host a bake sale to raise money for World Central Kitchen.

Blooms End, Petaluma bakery

Blooms End is having a bake sale with all proceeds going to the California Community Foundation and Pasadena Humane Society.

Casements Bar, San Francisco

A community bake sale at the bar will feature local bakers and drink specials, with all proceeds going to the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund.

Nopa, San Francisco

Nopa is selling pastry boxes on the weekends of Jan. 18 and Jan. 25, with all proceeds going to the Los Angeles Fire Department and World Central Kitchen. Preorders are also available online.
