Broncos’ Vance Joseph to interview for Las Vegas Raiders head coaching job, source says

The Broncos’ season is over, but hiring season is just ramping up.

Denver defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is set to interview with the Las Vegas Raiders for their open head coaching job, a source confirmed to The Post on Monday morning.

Joseph, 52, is also slated to interview for the New York Jets later this week.

Both the Raiders and the Jets are also in the midst of general manager searches, too. The Jets on Saturday interviewed Denver assistant general manager Darren Mougey for that posting.

Joseph orchestrated one of the best and most disruptive defenses in the NFL this season. The Broncos got pushed around Sunday in a 31-7 wild-card round loss at Buffalo, but Denver’s defense helped fuel a surprise 10-7 regular season that put the franchise back in the playoffs for the first time since Super Bowl 50 in early 2016.

Joseph’s defense finished the season leading the NFL in sacks with a club-record 63 and was near the top of the charts almost across the board. Denver tied for third in scoring defense, second in net passing yards per attempt allowed, second in rushing yards per attempt allowed and near the top of the league, too, in the red zone (third) and on third down (11th).

Joseph told reporters last week that he had his attention focused on the Bills game but that being considered for head coaching jobs again was “flattering.”

“I hope to have a chance to do it again, but I’m not chasing it,” Joseph said. “My focus is on this team and winning the game on Sunday.

“When that time comes, I’ll spend some time on that.”

Joseph said “again,” of course, because he was the Broncos’ head coach from 2017-18. He was fired after an 11-21 stretch, but has said he feels more ready the second time around.

Head coach Sean Payton agrees.

“(Teams are) trying to find and hire quality coaches that are passionate about what they’re doing — guys like Vance and his expertise,” Payton said earlier this month. “Look, history has told us that, on a number of occasions, the second experience for guys oftentimes can be very positive.”
